My husband had never been to Paris and I had never been to Prague so Cities of Light was a great choice for us. We had taken a Danube trip on Viking with my parents for their 50th anniversary and were very impressed with the company, the ship, the tours and the food. In comparison, this trip as a bit disappointing. The food was okay, not remarkable. The views, bus drivers and tours were wonderful and most of the staff was amazing. The last night on board, they docked in a literal garbage dump. We were told were taking on fresh water and would be moving. Well, we did, about 50 meters away in the same place. But at least in this new spot the drivers could maneuver the buses along side. When I contacted Viking afterward, they responded once, 2 weeks later when I was in a meeting and never returned a subsequent call or email. I have enthusiastically recommended Viking to people many times before this trip, but now less so. When I talk with people that have sailed Viking before, they are surprised by this tale, so I am hoping it was just a one off and the company has not grown too fast to keep up their excellent service. I love having an alternative to those massive floatels that I tried once and will never board again.
Though smaller than our previous Veranda cabin, the water level cabin was nicely appointed and fine for us, especially since half of our trip (extensions on both ends) was ashore. Our cabin steward was awesome.
Nighttime bus tour was amazing.
