51st Wedding Anniversary trip for the most wonderful girl in the world. The Viking Sky is a beautiful vessel. The room stewards were very friendly and efficient, although we did lose our first steward because he was selected for the Round the World cruise and sent home on leave to be with his family before the extended voyage (the best of the best!). ( I showed him his home on Bali using Google Maps satellite imagery and we became friends.) Food service was excellent and we used the World Cafe for most meals- the staff and food selections fit us better then the other venues, and the ice cream and chocolate cookies were beyond description. We particularly enjoyed the Port Call briefings and the art, history lectures. The Met's "Aida" opera was a great delight and a pleasant surprise. Our off-ship tours were excellent, the Rhodes tour guide was especially good. The three Israel tours (Old City & Modern Jerusalem, Jerusalem and Bethlehem, and Nazareth & the Sea of Galilee) brought us both a sense of wonder at the Life of Christ and his time and place. were particularly outstanding. A port change from Ashdod to Haifa resulted in our included tour taking longer than originally planned, but a meal was provided off-ship, proving the logistics staff at Viking was on top of events. Oh yes, seeing Stromboli erupt during the night passage to Naples was a highlight of the voyage.
Cabin had a balcony with a table and two chairs which we used while at sea and to watch port activities. I particularly enjoyed the ships wake and waves as she sailed at night, seen from the ship's lighting. Our bed was very comfortable, and the desk and refrigerator were useful. We did watch the large television some, but ship activities meant we did not rely on it for entertainment. The bathroom and shower were easy to use.
