Let me start by saying we have cruised 3 times on Carnival prior to this Norwegian Breakaway cruise. Where do i start? When you book on-line they tease you with "free drinks at sea", airline credits & onboard credits. You think all the way through the booking process that you will get some of these. After selecting the "sail-away balcony" at $699, apparently there is a small disclaimer telling you these items are not included with your "special price". I NEVER SAW IT! Surprise at the end, you do not get ANY of these things!
On to the cruise... Where do I start? The TOILET PAPER... bleeding by day 3! Toilets were out of order ALL OVER the ship. Chicken breasts, where are they? Grizzle in the steaks and THIN. Lack of sea food like crab legs or lobster tail! My biggest complaint compared to other cruise lines is the UP-CHARGE for EVERYTHING! We tried to take a bottle of wine in each of our checked in luggage as we have done on other cruises. They hit us with a $15 "corking fee" for each bottle. Not allowed to take on any water or a 12 pack of soft drinks like Carnival either.
This cruise line appeared to nickel & dime you for everything while providing obviously "cheaper options" such as food, entertainment and basic person necessities (paper products). The Rock of Ages show was horrible! Unless you were an 80's headbanger. The only positive thing was the staff. All pleasant & beautiful people inside and out. Most are working TOO HARD (13 hours a day) and apologizing for recent changes to menu items or quality of supplies... c'mon!
The room is terrific. The best thing about our cruise was the cabin and the friendly people working on the cruise. It was obvious by day 2 that Norwegian corporate was cutting costs on supplies and foot. AND.... up-charging for EVERYTHING.
Excellent shopping, The same $45 hat was $10 here. Save your dollars for shopping until this port. Fun Senior Frogs lunch and drinks. Would return here!
A little better than Honduras. Small shopping area.... prices higher than Cozumel. Save your dollars for there.
A little better than Honduras. Shopping, a beach with activities, nature walking trail.
Under construction. A mud lot, a few shops and a parking lot. We were advised it is NOT SAFE to take a taxi on your own to the closest village.
