Just got back from a 3 night cruise. Overall we had a fantastic experience. This was our 4th cruise and first with RCL (2 Celebrity and a princess before). We are a 40 year old couple from the US. We plan to check out other RCL ships for a future cruise with our child.
--we did the online pre-check in process. we ignored the time we were forced to choose for embarking and showed up early at 9:45am since that was when our hotel shuttle dropped us off - we got on the ship quickly and hassle free, roughly 10:45am. Windjammer didn't open until after 11:30 though.but we could stroll around and check things out. Very impressed how quickly we got on board!!!
--our window room was comfortable had a ton of drawer storage. We couldn't get a balcony (they don't have many) so this was our option...next time I think we'd just do interior if the balcony isn't available as the window didn't really do much for us. Be aware that there is no fridge. Room was clean but showing some age here and there. room steward was polite and courteous. A few little things were off..like, no pen and pad of paper in the desk.... and our standard size suitcases did not fit under the bed so they sat on a chair, which was in our room for unexplained reasons..perhaps as a suitcase holder...?.
--dinner in main dining room was quite good and our service was excellent. our wait staff got to know us and were really on point with their hospitality and menu recommendations. Husband ordered a steak from Chops on the last night, while we were in the main dining room. his medium steak came rare and bloody red. they sent it back and brought a new one that was medium on the ends but 100% pink/rare in the middle. he decided it wasn't worth sending it back again.. I was disappointed for him since he really loves steak and that was a special treat for him to enjoy on our last night. (as a business traveler who eats at expensive steakhouses, I think it would be fair to say he knows good quality steak and what "medium" looks like ....and this part of our experience was sub-par, esp since there was an up-charge--the lesser quality steaks served off the menu were cooked better!!! )
--breakfasts at windjammer could get a bit crowded.... or not, depending on the time that we went, but we always found a seat and could get what we wanted without too much wait. we liked getting omelettes made-to-order and found our food experience good there.
-- disappointed that room service had just under $8 up-charge for lunch/dinner/late night dining choices. The only free breakfast items for AM delivery were things like cereal and toast, everything else was an up-charge. This was the first cruise we were on where there was a room service up-charge, which was a bummer. We loved having the option of room service on our past cruises.
--not much for late night dining/snacks. no late night buffet in Windjammer, just some small items elsewhere. really bummed about this.
--ship's windows were filthy. Our last 2 celebrity cruises, they had people cleaning windows and doing exterior maintenance every time the ship was in a port. there was soot on the windows the stern area. many of the windows had residue. many of the other spaces were clean but it was the little things...like dirty and moldy cup holders in the theater that tells me that this ship needs either a deep clean or a refurbishment.
--it bothers me that there is no way to hear ship announcements in our room. I wish they had an opt-in where I could pick up the phone or turn the TV to a station to hear it.
--entertainment and "fun" was good. there were more things to do in the later hours than the past celebrity cruises we had been on. Definitely more of a party vibe (which may or may not be good, depending on what you are looking for). Just be careful if you book a stateroom that is close to a bar, if you don't want to stay up late. We were on this cruise to have fun and it totally delivered. Upbeat, having-fun vibe everywhere.
--downloaded the app but could not get it to work properly for me once we left Port Canaveral.
--disembarking process was pretty good. long lines to go through customs for us once we got off the ship, but was otherwise as expected.
--they cancelled our Pearl Island excursion due to "low participation". we were concerned when it didn't show up on our app a few days before, like our other booked tour, but no one notified us until we got on board. no email/cancellation notice which was irritating since then we had to make a new choice quickly (and clearly they had cancelled it before embarkation day). also irritated since they had advertised this tour on their program as a good choice and then cancelled it on us since it wasn't going to make them money....we did get a 10% discount on a new tour and the excursion staff was helpful in getting a new gameplan.
Did the VIP beach experience at Blue Lagoon. Ultra private, less than 15 people in our area. Service and light lunch was good. Not a lot of swimming, area was pretty rocky. It was quiet and restful. But for the price, next time we will check out the other area on Blue Lagoon or try Pearl Island again. Our ride back to Nassau was delayed and we missed our 6pm dinner time. We were able to switch to an 8:45pm time w/o problems. Ride back to Nassau dropped us off in a busy area and we needed to walk through lots of street vendors to get back to the ship. It was a nice tour overall but I don't think the value was there for the $$$$ price we paid. Thought the beach at Coco Cay was better....
We did the Beach Loungers on Coco Cay. For $60 for two people, this was a great value as it gave us VIP bands and access to a separate beach area, shuttle service to the other area, a different bathroom, bar and service staff just for the cabanas and lounge renters. The floating Tiki bar was a riot. The beach was clean and the water was warm. There's construction going on but we could not hear it in our area. Will 100% do this again next time. It will be nice when you don't need to take the tender to shore, once the new pier is done.
Overall-- we had a really good time. We were there to relax, have fun, eat too much and get some sunshine. I think this cruise delivered our wish list items and would go on it again. We plan to check out some of the newer RCL ships in the future, first. :)
Do not book this room if you go to bed early. You can hear noise when the band plays or when there are loud activities in the central area which it is adjacent to. (We didn't care since we were out late at night and didn't spend much time in the room on such a short cruise. But I would not pay extra to choose this room UNLESS you want to be able to get to and from the bar quickly. Then, this room is totally for you!!)
Note that since it is the first stateroom of that corridor, you get a lot of people walking past to go to/from their rooms. At night, once activities were done, the only noise came from the hallway when people would walk by and would be talking loudly. Next time we will book away from the center of the ship.
very private VIP area. staff was friendly, light lunch was good. beach area was rocky. it was a pleasant place to relax in the sun but not much beyond that, so not sure the value was there for the price we paid.View All 284 Blue Lagoon Island Beach Reviews
$60 for two people in a beach lounger clam shell was the best value of the entire trip. We had our own shade, but even better-- we got VIP bands which = shuttle service to and from our area, a separate bathroom, bar and staff for the loungers & beach beds, and was right down the beach from the floating Tiki bar. Beautiful day, clear and clean beach and water. 100% would do this again.View All undefined undefined Reviews
