If you are searching for a European adventure, look no further than Viking's Amsterdam to Catalonia 10-day cruise!

After cruising with Viking River Cruises in July 2017, we decided to give Viking Ocean Cruises a look-see. We were not disappointed! Although the ocean vessels are larger and accommodate more passengers, we enjoyed the same fantastic experience as on the river. Viking's attention to every detail of a cruise vacation is unparalleled. From embarkation in Amsterdam to disembarkation in Barcelona, we were pampered and treated royally. Each and every staff member was professional and courteous; their pride in the Viking brand shone through.

We availed ourselves of a 2-day pre-cruise stay in Amsterdam. While the hotel chosen by Viking (Movenpick) was superb, it was a bit distant from the city center. It's location, however, made transferring from the hotel to the ship very easy as it was only a few hundred yards down the street. And, as with their cruises, Viking offered an included canal boat tour as part of the package, which was awesome.

Once on board, everything was fabulous. Our veranda cabin gave the feel of an extra room and provided some fantastic views as we cruised from Amsterdam to Barcelona. The amenities were excellent and replenished as needed by our attentive stewards. At our accommodation level, mini-bar items were included. Each cabin has a set of binoculars, which cam in handy at times. The Viking dining experience is a treat. Our package afforded us the opportunity to dine in the two alternative restaurants; each was marvelous. In the main restaurant and at the buffet, the preparation was amazing and the range of choices more than enough. There is also an outdoors dining location.

Did I mention that our cruise director was a trained opera club performer and actually was the evening's entertainment on two evenings. She was amazing! All of the activities and entertainment on board was carefully chosen and well executed.

The included excursions were comprehensive and provided us with excellent looks into the local cultures and histories. Of special interest was our tour to Normandy and the D-Day beaches. This was a very moving experience. The tours in Portsmouth, Vigo, Malaga, Cartegena, and Barcelona were all excellent. We remained in Barcelona for the 2-day post-cruise extension which afforded us more time to roam this wonderful city.

On this cruise we traveled with friends from Texas whom we met on our Viking River Cruise in 2017; they brought friends, and together our little group was inseparable. Every aspect of our trip, from airline bookings to pre- and post-cruise add-ons to the on-board experience was like a dream. We look forward to cruising with Viking again in 2020 (or sooner).

Cabin Review

Cabin Deluxe Veranda 6068

The cabin was ready upon embarkation and was well taken care of by our excellent cabin stewards. The veranda gave us a "second" room and was relaxing and enjoyable both while in port and while cruising. The bed was very comfortable. The bath was more than sufficient size. The heated floor in the bath is a welcome treat in the mornings.
