We chose this cruise because it stopped at many major cities that we had not been to and wanted to explore. It was the only Baltic Cruise that we found that included all these stops and more--a tour of the Norwegian fjords as well as stops at several smaller towns and cities along the way. This cruise provided a very comprehensive visit to the Baltic area. Of course, we would have liked a little more time in each stop, but this was a great sampler. The cruise started in Stockholm and ended in Bergen. Because it included just one day in Copenhagen, we started our trip in Copenhagen, toured there for a few days, then flew to Stockholm a few days before the cruise. When we returned to Copenhagen on the cruise, we were able to choose an optional tour outside the city. Each port included a tour of the city at no extra charge, but there were also many optional tours. We chose a mix of included, optional, and private tours, which we arranged on our own. We stayed an extra day in Bergen at the end of the trip and then took the train to Oslo. The extra four days there rounded out our Baltic experience! Originally, we were not going to go to Berlin because it was a long distance away from the port and a short time to sightsee. We decided to hire a private guide with our friends, and it turned out to be a perfect day. Those who took the train to the city also had a wonderful experience. The ship is beautiful and elegant. There were many areas in the ship where we could relax. The pool area is quite nice, and entertainment is provided at times in the lounges and public areas of the ship. There is beautiful art work throughout the ship, with a book (and app) to explain it. The cabin was very comfortable. The dining options were just right--from the main dining room to casual options to specialty restaurants--and the food is delicious. The entertainment was delightful. Each night, there was a 45-minute show--from Broadway tunes to Elvis and more. The performers were first-class. Each night, there was a discussion of the upcoming port, which greatly enriched our experience. There were also some interesting cultural programs. The cruise director presented the port programs and was very interesting and well prepared. In fact, he greatly contributed to the ambience of the cruise--he was very personable and friendly and made an effort to talk with all the passengers. This was our fourth Viking trip--three river cruises and one ocean cruise. We are most pleased with their service. The staff is very professional, helpful, and friendly. We are looking forward to taking more trips with Viking. In fact, we are in the process of looking at at least two more ocean cruises in the next few years!

Cabin Review

Cabin 5054
The cabin was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious and provided nice toiletries. We would have liked more drawer space. The closet was very large--we would suggest building shelves on one side or inserting a chest of drawers. We ended up putting much of our clothing on the floor of the closet. We needed more shelf space than hanging space. The people that we were traveling with had the same observation.
