WOW!! I just got back yesterday from a 7 day western Caribbean cruise on the Jewel. It was too short - I didn't want to get off! It was the greatest holiday we've ever had, and our first cruise. We couldn't find anything to criticize or complain about. After reading some reviews, I was a little worried, but realized that there are always people who like to complain about anything. We felt like family - every crew member was so friendly, and all the passengers were so happy. We had a problem with our keycards to our room - it got demagnetized somehow in my husband's pocket. Our room steward was right there to help, and the service desk fixed our keys right away. We went to every show at night - they were all excellent. The comedian, Tim, was hilarious. I've never laughed so much as this week. He was leaving for a holiday after our cruise, but I'm certain he'd be replaced by another equally funny guy. Other people we talked to at the airport (on the way home) who were on the Norwegian Dawn also raved about their entertainment. The food was amazing. It was delicious, varied, interesting. Anyone who complained that it was not hot spent too much time at the buffet piling it up, and it cooled off before they sat down! I learned to get the hot stuff last. The Tsar's Palace (free) and Azura (free) were first class. Le Bistro (extra cover charge) was equally first class. They'd ask if you wanted a private table or to share. We weren't on enough days to try all the others, because we just kept going to the buffets which were all so good. There were 2 dress-up days that were optional. The ship was spotless, all the time. Hand sanitizers were everywhere, entering and exiting all public areas. We saw them scrubbing everything down, every night, and during the day too. Our room was great, always clean, spacious enough, and the balcony was great. Wonderful shower. The bed was so comfortable - we both slept great, every night. I loved having the balcony door open at night, listening to the sea. There was a TV that had some ship channels, (ship data: location, temps etc., ship shopping, ship shows that were taped that day, and more) as well as CNN and Fox News. Drinks were great - I stuck to the drink of the day. We brought a bottle of wine on board, paid the corkage, and took it to a restaurant one evening to have with our dinner. Well worth the savings. We booked port tours through Norwegian. They were all excellent. For our first cruise, we wanted the security of knowing that we'd be back to the boat in time, and if we were late, that the boat would wait for us. We were also the first to get off with the Norwegian tours. Tendering was efficient both days. You had to be back on the boat by 4:30 to leave at 5:00. I was shocked to see people doddling back to the boat after 4:30. Our day at the Norwegian island was cancelled due to a bad weather front, but the captain steered us into sun, so we had a good sunny day at sea instead. It was a disappointment to not get the beach time, but the rest of the trip was all great weather, so we can't complain about things out of our control. We put down a deposit for another Norwegian cruise within the next 4 years - a no-brainer!
