Towel animal in our cabin. We had a new animal every day.
One of our delicious desserts at dinner in the Ecstasy dining room.
This is the beautiful Half Moon Cay beach. Perfect!!!

I wanted to have one last huge vacation with my kids as my oldest heads off to college in the fall. A cruise to the Carribean sounded fun as we all like the beach, and it was an area we hadn't been, and further, my girls had never been out of the country. We booked this through a travel agent, so all those details were taken care of through someone else.

I did a lot of research on the ports and the ship itself once I got my itenerary so I would be able to make good decisions on excursions, etc. I wound up throwing it all out the window and going with what I found on here and with some information gathered out of Trip Advisor. The excursions listed through Carnival and my travel company were horrifically expensive, and as I'm working on my teacher's salary and my income tax refund, I was trying to stick to a budget.

The embarkation was.....interesting. I purchased transportation from the airport to the dock, and apparently they were backed up. Some people complained they had been there since 8am (it was around 11:30 or so when we got off our flight) and the man from Carnival directing it was rude. Told us all to come on, so all 35 of us started to move, he then told over half of us to go back and sit down. He then took the people that had just walked up forcing the people that had been waiting for hours to keep waiting. It was a little like a circus. Or carnival? Once actually on the ship, it wasn't bad. We had to wait around until close to 3 to actually get into our room. Our room was better than I expected. Very clean, roomier than I expected, beds were great. Only one outlet though, and the shower temperatures were set in Celcius so that took some getting used to.

Cabin ocean view

Very clean. Beds were really comfortable, sheets were great. Bathroom was clean daily. It was bigger than I expected it to be, with a set of twin bunks and a third twin bed. We each had our space. Plenty of light, just really nice. Only one outlet, and the temperature settings on the shower were in Celcius, which took a bit of getting used to but we got it.

Port Reviews

Grand Turk

We were unable to get to Gibbs Cay due to weather, so we stayed on the beach right off the port. Reminded me of a highly commercialized Florida beach. On the plus side- tons of shade, free beach chairs, plenty of food and drink choices, the people were super friendly and went out of their way to help you. We loved the welcome area as it had the best shopping. We spent the most time there.

Half Moon Cay

This beach and island are absolutely beautiful!! Perfect white sand and blue water. It has a well developed entry area, paved with signs up. It has volleyball pits, basketball courts, and an area for the BBQ lunch. It is a privately owned island by a Carnival subsidiary- Holland. There are NO beach umbrellas anywhere. There is an area down near the mouth of the cay where the transport comes in that has a kids play area, that has umbreallas, I believe. But if you are on the main area you have no shade at all. No trees, nothing. It is almost unbearable. They do provide a free (included in your cruise price) BBQ lunch. It's not announced, so you have to watch the time yourself. All in all, this was truly our favorite beach.

Nassau

We got an impromptu tour from our cab driver. He took us to see a lot of the landmarks and it was a lot cheaper than the excursions listed. He took pictures of us for me, gave good suggestions for local food, had great insight into the history, and carried on a wonderful converation with me about the similarities and differences in our countries. The Rum Cake Factory was great. Free samples, and the guys were very welcoming. Good deals on the cakes as well. We went to the Junkanoo Beach and it was great. Really popular and we got a beach chair deal with chairs, an umbrealla and three free drinks. The service was impeccable, the water was awesome, my kids had fun. A man came along and let the girls feed a school of fish with some chicken bones he had. Such a good time! No need for an excursion!
