This was a family vacation consisting of grandchildren, daughter, son-in-law, and us, the grandparents.
CABINS: Our cabins were average, but dated with chipped mirror and shower area needing painting. drapes had multiple areas with pinholes. We had a cabin at the aft end of the ship The 180 degrees view and the large balcony was very nice. We were directly below the Windjammer restaurant, but it wasn't noisy at all. Stateroom housekeeping attendant, Irishe Pacia, was excellent.
DINING: Buffet was nearly the same everyday. However, the food was average compared to cruises that we've been on with Celebrity and Princess. The dining room food was above average. However, we used Anytime Dining. The menu contained a list of the appetizers, main dishes and desserts. Unlike our prior cruise experiences, I believe they wanted us to order everything including desserts at one time. The wait staff, however, was very understanding if we preferred to order dessert later. Our biggest complain was guests entering the dining room wearing cutoff jeans and flip flops. Several women came in wearing swimsuit covers. This occurred on both smart casual and formal nights. This really ruined the atmosphere. The ship caters to a lot of Texas residents, but the last night chorus by the entire wait staff singing "Deep in the Heart of Texas" was the topper.
You won't find much in the way of motels near the port. We flew in to Hobby and paid for the Royal Caribbean shuttle bus.
Enjoyed the shops near the ship.
