Choose to try a cruise with RCCL and Jewel of the seas due to itinerary, especially for being one of the few ships that stopped at Dominica where we had our engagement 35 yrs ago. Unfortunately due to Hurricane Maria Dominica was so hard hit that the itinerary was changed and the ship docked at Martinique instead.
The cruise was nice with some plus and minuses.
+ Nice ship
Stateroom nice size and well equipped. Balcony nice, had to order reclining chairs to be able to enjoy the sun and to see under the railing upright chairs was to uncomfortable and wrong height.
The stateroom had a strange smell as if either sanitized with some chemicals or needed to be.
Water in bathroom unable to get cold mix from handbasin faucet, tepit in best cases or down right hot.
Beds of good quality and firmness. Unfortunately the stateroom was under the Solarium sundeck and every morning we woke up to deckchairs dragged and dropped of to the deck with noise, recommendation avoid that.
Stateroom was equipped with large walk-in wardrobe, great!
Wonderful beaches within walking distance approx 20-30 min
Nothing to see on your own Take a tour or go swimming on the downtown beach
The small town at the harbour is just souvenirs and tourist traps
Made or own stop over day before cruise and a walking tour of San Juan which was nice.
