This cruise was not what I have come to expect from my vacations. While the food was not bad, the dining room options were more limited than some of my past cruises. "New" or enticing options were minimal, and most of the menu was re-used each day. The ship supposedly had a remodel/renovation, but many things were missed. Display cases for art were visibly damaged. Our stateroom restroom had broken and chipped sections of wall paneling, and the window was not properly sealed. Hearing the captain or cruise staff over speakers were impossible in many areas.
Due to weather, our ports were changed or excursions cancelled. We did not get to go to St. Croix, and were re-routed to St. Thomas, where we attempted snorkeling and had a few people on the boat get sick. Our tour of the zoo and a rum distillery in Martinique was poorly led- the guide was lackluster and had an accent too thick to be understood, the few times she was loud enough to be heard. The entertainment has been recycled- I saw the same musical I saw on a Royal cruise 4 years ago.
While the service was very good, overall, I am disappointed with this vacation, and am in no hurry to book another Royal Caribbean cruise.
The cabin was pretty standard for mid-range cruising price. Repair of the stateroom, however, was not optimal. The overhead speaker did not work. Walls inside the restroom were chipped and broken. The window seal leaked. The cabinet/cupboard doors did not sit evenly when attempting to close them.
San Juan is still in recovery mode, but they are coming along well, considering. We stayed at the Hyatt House near the port the night before the cruise, and ate at the amazing Casita Miramar. I highly recommend both locations.
Our "Beach Day" excursion was cancelled, so we explored the port. Nice shopping.
Snorkeling with Turtles was cancelled. Again, we chose to explore the port ourselves. Witnessed another passenger assault our taxi driver.
