Viking Kvasir - Basel to Amsterdam

This was the second Viking river cruise of two that we booked more or less back- to- back so we had already been in Europe for some time. The Bordeaux cruise is reviewed elsewhere. We ended out cruise in Bordeaux and arrived in Basel a few days before embarkation. We rented a short-term rental apartment for our stay in Basel. We had booked a car service to pick us up at the airport and whisk us to or apartment. Our driver was waiting for us as we left the Basel terminal.

Our apartment was only half a block from the Rhine river. We can see where the Viking ships usually dock. However, we have been notified by Viking that due to mechanical difficulties, our ship will not be meeting us here in Basel. We will go back to the airport on embarkation day and be met by Viking staff who will get us out the ship at what was to be our first port of call. We are very happy to have a few days here in Basel to explore the city on our own. The passengers who are flying in on embarkation day will be missing this lovey old medieval city.
