I’m surprised to see negative reviews of this ship. All in all, with a few minor issues, I thought the ship was really good. A long time HAL cruiser, I typically favor the smaller ships, but friends and I decided to book Konigsdam for 21 days in the Caribbean sun, January 14-February 4, 2018. I was in an outside cabin, 1165 on Main Deck. Although the cabin seemed a bit smaller, I have to say there was great storage, with soft close drawers, and the bathroom had a nice size shower stall vs. the tub the older ships have. We had any time dining, and typically ate dinner between 5:45 and 6:00. With the exception of the last night, they had 3 shows every night, so it was easier to find time to see the show, plus still visit other music venues on the Music Walk. The show lounge and dancers/costumes were by far, the best I’ve seen on HAL. The service in all of the food venues was excellent, as was the food. Their baked goods are excellent, and the NY Deli was a great place to grab a bagel and coffee each morning. I didn’t try the Dutch Cafe, but their baked goods looked yummy. The room stewards and other servers were the same warm, helpful peopleI’ve come to know on HAL ships. Internet connectivity was better than most, and I loved the IN CABIN on demand TV.
Smoking continues to be an issue in the Casino, and aft Lido pool but they had 2 smoke free nights in each segment, so I use those nights to make my “donations”. If I could choose, I’d make the whole ship smoke free, or move the smoking up to a deck, away from food venues. They could use more things/activities to do during the day, and while they have some unique offerings, Microsoft computer classes, and (America’s test kitchen cooking classes) they often were only offered once, or at odd times, like the early dinner seating, so if you had a conflict, there wasn’t a way to catch it again.
Very nicely appointed, in good shape. Loved the shower stall and flat screen TV with on demand movies and TV shows
Gorgeous beach, some new offerings at their bbq, including fish tacos and ice cream cones.
We toured the islands in the past, now we just walk around old town and the Fort and people watch. Old town has mostly recovered from the hurricane, but we spoke to many folks who were without power for a long time at home.
Took a cab to Reflection Beach, it’s not over run by tourists, and it’s a relaxing day, with a bar and facilities plus wifi
We walked to the right off the ship, about 1/2 away, there’s a resort where you can pay $10 for a chair and you are given a drink token as well. There are facilities there, and the snorkeling is quite good right off their floating dock.
Took a ship’s snorkeling tour, it was pretty well run, but water was choppy.
