We would never have chosen to go on a cruise for our vacation, but after spending 7 days on Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas, we fell in love.
departure:
We rode the Escot bus which cost $90 per person round trip from Port Charlotte to Ft. Lauderdale which was very nice, super clean, free wifi and half full large bus that drops you right at the port. https://escotbuslines.com/
Very clean, nice views to sky and water towards the back and Aqua Stage. The room is very quiet when the door is shut. Curtains are fine for semi-privacy or full cover when needed. We enjoyed being able to see other people on the balconies which gave a more energetic and travel fun atmosphere.
Shower had great water pressure, very hot water, room was cleaned well twice a day, turn down service. Nice continental breakfast that is included and delivered to your room if you like.
It was very touristy and not as interesting to walk around compared to other ports. We walked into town about 45 minutes to get to a beach that had crystal clear water, but was still not a nice walk to get there and still near the shipping lanes so not as idyllic as one might expect. However, nice to be walking distance.
This was a very beautiful town, very safe, and very friendly people. We loved exploring the streets, back alleys and discovering local spots to eat and drink. The forts are very beautiful and not necessary to hire a tour bus if you enjoy walking.
Too much shopping and not enough local culture or activity.
