We have been on many Carnival cruises and always agreed it was "the fun ship" always something fun to do. We did not feel this was the case this cruise. Carnival Airport personnel, advised that we were too late to make the ship because we were told we arrived needed with less than 1 hour prior to sail and advised Carnival embarkation to shut its doors. We were not the only passengers that this happened to. Due to this issue, we were forced to fly at our own expense, to the 3rd port of call on this cruise, however, in Aruba our last port of call, the ship waited beyond sail time for passengers to return to the ship. We missed two excursions. Finally, on board, we learned that our dining room was in the Aft of the ship which we would Never have agreed to because if we were any further in the aft of the boat we would be in the sea. When inquiring for a change to a private table, we were accommodated but shown to a table way.......in the corner of the aft of the dining room. Fortunately, we had excellent service.
The entertainment was horrible for Carnival standards. I believe the cruise director blew it this time. Our friends just came from another cruise line where a spectacular show was held. Additionally, the comedy late night comedian, Azeees was not only politically offensive to race, and in general not funny. Not by his cursing but by his demeanor. Many guests walked out.
Pretty much everyone we told we were going on Carnival was skeptical, but we insisted we chose wisely, I don't bear that belief any longer and really have not decided if we will sail again with Carnival or any of their lines. A
Although, the safe did not operate, we were not concerned about our valuables. We received excellent cabin service from our steward, and utilized our balcony daily.
We love Aruba and it is much more built up then our last visit. There are many new hi rise condo projects for sale. Near the port there are tons of name stores to shop but there are also the old shanty local stands to buy typical souvenirs. Store prices for tee shirts etc. pricey. I recommend taking the bus across from the ship to West Palm Beach on the hotel side of the island. The water there is calmest and with the least rocks and drop in the ocean. The water toys are very pricey. We rented two chairs for $10 each and even the rest room costs $1 to use.
In this port excursions are not entirely necessary. You must be able to walk a long distance from the ship. We really enjoyed the old temple and museum and did some shopping on the way back to the ship. There are all types of shops along the way but you must know your prices or you could pay more than necessary.
