I had an assignment (traveling alone as a single) to cover the Caribbean Islands - Celebrity Summit departing from San Juan, had a comprehensive itinerary which suited my needs. Being able to secure an ocean-view cabin at a very low price, certainly didn't hurt my feelings either! This is an older ship of the Celebrity line, but well maintained. The crew are a delight, especially the wait staff in the various restaurants. They go out of their way to make you comfortable, feel welcome and try to anticipate your every culinary need with each meal. The food is not necessarily the best available onboard - you have to cough up more dollars to eat in the specialty restaurants which I am not about to do. What is served in the Cosmopolitan restaurant and the Ocean View Café is adequate, but not much more. On three separate evening occasions, I had to return two steak and one veal dinner, the meal was tough, old and tasteless. The chef did come to my table to confer with me on my preferences, but the damage to the reputation of the kitchen was already done. My cabin steward was also another outstanding employee...he kept the cabin spotless and nothing was too much trouble. Shore excursions were plentiful but far too expensive, however, halfway thru the first cruise (I was doing a B2B), I was able to purchase land tours for the next segment at 20% of the published price. Wifi is extremely expensive (percentage discounts available depending on your tier status) and the signal is great, but only in public areas of the ship. In the cabin, where I needed it the most, it SUCKED. Considering what Celebrity charges for Wifi, this is simply not acceptable, as routers place on each deck or even in each cabin, would be very inexpensive to do. Yes I would consider cruising with Celebrity again but I still feel improvements in some areas are necessary. I will applaud for Celebrity for one specific item: complimentary airport/ship/airport transfers and an immediate refund to my credit card, for the amount I had prepaid for these. Kudos for this!

Cabin Review

Cabin Ocean View (2)

Cabin was a decent size but not well arranged. The bed should be up against the window, leaving more room to move around. However, it is placed cross-wise in the middle of the cabin, leaving about 1.5 feet at the foot to get past it. Adequate closet space and plenty of hangers - always appreciated. Bathroom with shower only is ok, but a tight squeeze to move around with the door closed.
