Sail Date: Dec 2017

We have sailed on about a dozen ships starting back in 1994 with the Carnival Fascination. This cruise was probably the least enjoyable of all of them. This was our second time on a ship this size on Royal Caribbean. If you have never cruised before you may find this ship enjoyable mainly because you have nothing to compare it to. You don't know what a relaxing cruise can be like. This ship is just too big to handle the 6000 or so passengers on board. There are many common areas on board the ship but none of them are large enough to handle the amount of guests. The Windjammer Marketplace is too small to accommodate so many people for breakfast. If you don't get there early they stop people at the door until a table opens up. This can cause the line to wrap around the corner and down the stairs. Trying to get a simple cup of coffee takes way to long. They do have coffee on the promenade deck, but that is 8 stories down and twice the coffee was empty. The theater for the main show cannot handle even half of the quests, so you need to make reservations to see any show. The comedy club is too small and again you need reservations. How can 6000 people see a comedy show that can only sit less that 150 people?

Royal Caribbean needs to do away with "my time dining". If you are required to make a reservation months in advance of the cruise it is hardly "my time". We ended up with my time dining for 8:00 in the evening even though I requested 5:30 2 months prior. We ended up paying extra for the specialty dining rooms.

The service on cruise ships has declined greatly over the past years and Oasis just strengthens my thoughts. Food left in hallways, dirty plates left at your table much longer than they need to be. Ever since cruise lines starting adding automatic gratuities to your on board bill the staff know they will get a tip if the go the extra mile or not. Why pick up that room service tray someone left outside their door if the gratuities are automatic.

Port Reviews

Labadee

The beach and areas were clean and the weather was warm and sunny. The food they serve comes from the ship and was only ok. Overall an ok time. The zip line was not working. Many were disappointed in that.

San Juan

Royal Caribbean cancelled our excursion at the last minute. The island is really still not ready for cruise ships. Most of San Juan was still without power. Shops were cash only, some had AC but many did not. The weather was warm and we spent time at Senor Frogs for lunch and drinks.

St. Thomas

Beaches are not quiet ready after the recent hurricane but we still had a good time.
