Ship had propulsion problem and let us know right before we sailed. I called Cruise Direct to find out what my options were. They got on the phone with Royal Caribbean and we had a conference call. This was our 35th anniversary cruise and we were supposed to be in port by the original schedule. First I asked for changing my cruise until Feb. 2018 and they wanted ~$2000 to change. I then asked to cancel, and they were going to charge 75% of the cruise cost. Cruise Direct and Royal Caribbean temporarily left the conference call and came back. There were no other options available (mind you the phone call lasted an hour). Cruise Direct advised me to go to Guest Services on the ship when we got on board and they would be able to do something. We did and only got a bottle of St. Maarten wine to make our anniversary. When we got on board our itinerary changed to Cozumel, Jamaica, and Labedee, Haiti. The storm was predicted to go right near Haiti, and I told my wife we would not be going to Labedee, I was right. They should have had the foresight to reverse the itinerary. We then had our cruise extended to Wednesday from Sunday. We were hoping to get back on Sunday before the storm hit because we live on the east coast of Florida and we did not put up our shutters before we left. Needless to say the rest of the cruise we watched the news and the hurricane and did not enjoy the cruise. We looked into leaving from Jamaica so we could go home, but it was very expensive to fly and I-95 was gridlocked and we would not have made it home on time to put up the shutters before the hurricane hit. I understand that this was an act of nature, beyond control of Royal Caribbean. The problem I have is the ship had a mechanical issue that Royal Caribbean knew about and was not willing to be held accountable for their neglect (parts issue, preventive maintenance program). Royal Caribbean was never honest, and we still don't know, why one engine on the ship was disabled (broke).

Royal Caribbean's Guest/Customer Service does not get it. They do not understand that their neglect of the ship impacted people and they were unwilling (only if you were willing to pay for it) to do the right thing.
