We embarked from the port of Long Beach (Los Angeles, CA) for a 7 day cruise to the Mexican Riveria. The ports of call were to be Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. Unfortunately a building hurricane off the coast of P.V. almost left us with a cruise to nowhere. In the end however, we only lost Puerto Vallarta. Carnival made up for this by giving us Ensenada on the return leg of our voyage and put Cabo first. Of course, this is no fault of Carnival's. They cannot control the weather. Our cruise director was "Goose" (short for Gustave). Seemed like a nice enough fellow, but boy could he put a positive spin on anything! The cabins have T.V. with a variety of channels, but no weather channel, so we had to go with what the crew told us over the loud speakers throughout the ship. The captain spoke very broken English so most of the time it was difficult to understand what he was saying. Goose was easier to listen to, but decidedly vague with details on the storm and how it would affect our voyage. Hey Carnival, how about adding the weather channel to your channel lineup on the cabin T.V.'s?This was my first cruise, and my opinion of the condition of the ship is jaded because it's Carnival's newest ship so it's in great shape at the moment. Someone else commented on the floor plan and I agree. It takes a little getting used to to get around the restaurants, shops and such. They are all located in the aft of the ship and once you realize it's a quick elevator ride from the Lido deck elevators, it's fairly painless but not entirely intuitive. Just remember to use the aft elevators to get around and you'll be okay.I say this is probably my last cruise, not because of any outstanding issues with the ship or it's staff, but I'm just not the cruise type personally. The best way to sum up a cruise in my opinion is: Picture 7 days of mild to moderate turbulence on an aircraft, but with room to move around and slightly above par food. Drinks cost way too much and someone is trying to sell you something at every turn, even on the docks. I guess that's what a cruise is supposed to be, but just not my cup of tea.My only real gripe for the whole adventure was disembarkation back in Long Beach. Self Assist disembarkation was not conducted deck by deck. So you had about 1500 people all trying to get on one of only 6 elevators in use for the disembarkation process and once you caught one to deck 3, the elevator doors opened to a sardine can full of people waiting to get out! It was complete chaos, but Goose came on over the intercom and kept reminding us how smoothly and quickly things were going. What did I say about putting a positive spin on anything? Goose for U.S. Senate!Finally..... to anyone who takes a cruise that lands them in Ensenada, I recommend El Antigua Bar! This guy Tony has 6 beers and 4 tequilla shots for $20 US! After paying $7.50 per drink on the boat, this was a welcome change and he was really cool.... and no, I'm not affiliated in any way with Tony or the bar. It was just too good a deal to leave out of my review. So overall, the cruise was fine, but I guess I discovered I'm just not much for cruises. To all those that are, happy sailing and have fun wherever your next cruise takes you!
