I chose this cruise because I enjoy travelling and wished to see the cities on the Rhine. Embarkation was poor as there was no one to meet me off the plane and I had to make several phone calls before anyone arrived. The ship was excellent and the excursions were very good and well and well organised. The food was quite good but I expected better and have enjoyed food on other cruises more, but the service was good. Entertainment was poor and the crew evening very amateur. The BIG drawback was the single cabin which was a disgrace, please read my review in this connection which will leave one in no doubt about how I feel about the accommodation.
I complained on the first day to the cruise director and received a letter when i got home saying that the cabin plans are at the back of the brochure but no apology!
Even for a single traveller the cabin was very small and cramped. I have taken a photograph which I will willingly share if given the opportunity. I would describe it as a "garret" that Emerald has the nerve to classify as a suitable single room for a single passenger and charge a substantial single supplement. A lovely river cruise on a beautiful boat "Emerald Dawn" but let down by thinking that a single traveller has to be content with something as sub standard that they can be treated as second class citizens and provided with such miserable accommodation at such a premium. It is an insult to those who are used to a comfortable home and way of life but have the misfortune to be on their own but wish to enjoy the normal pleasures in life. Be ashamed of your selves, Emerald, and rethink your philosophy. You have let yourself down on what was otherwise a great package. I will not be returning!
