This was our 72nd cruise over 40 years of cruising. We are Elite on Princess but have been sailing on Celebrity's solstice class ships for the past few years. Decided to try Princess again with friends and loved the itinerary of the Royal and the fact that it was just a few years old. The ship's beauty and classiness wowed us when we got on. The atrium and piazza is absolutely stunning. Our cabin was on Dolphin deck and a deluxe veranda category. It was immaculate and sufficient for all our needs although a little smaller cabin than Celebrity ships and a smaller balcony but adequate for us. Cabin service was excellent - no complaints there. We had anytime dining which was a little problem as we liked dining at 6:30 and the matre'd would not let us make a reservation for 6:30 every night - we had to just go and wait. On Celebrity, they do accommodate these request with anytime dining. I'll have to say we never waited more than 5 or 10 minutes though at that time. Only complaint of the entire cruise was dining room service and food. Service was slow - it was apparent there were not enough staff and food quality and menu choices just fair to good on most nights. The Lido dining room service was excellent however with waiters bringing you juice and coffee in the mornings. The entertainment was very good. Enjoyed every show and especially liked performer, Perry Grant, in Schooners every night. I understand he'll be leaving in January for Crystal cruises. Bar service was very slow but waiters were friendly and accommodating. It's obvious that Princess is cutting back on cruise staff. Overall, the cruise was very enjoyable and we would sail Princess again if the price was right as this one was.
