Norwegian Jewel Review

Great for retirees, not great for young families.

We are a young family with 3 kids, ages 6, 4, and 3. We recently went on a Norwegian Cruise with 3 other families. Our previous two family cruises were on the Disney Cruise Line. This was not our first choice, but we thought hey, why not? Unfortunately, we realized this cruise was not suited for our young family's needs and desires.

Ship - B

The Jewel was a little tired, a little worn. The bathrooms, pool, and atrium area were all beautiful and looked to be recently remodeled. I was very impressed with the beautiful pool area. There was a decent sized family pool with a smaller wraparound deck to sit on, and an equally sized adults only pool. Both pools were flanked by two hot tubs. The family pool also had a great water slide! The pool is much better than the pools on the Disney Cruise ships, mostly due to space vs user ratio.

Port Reviews

Puerto Vallarta

Much cheaper if you book elsewhere. We booked through www.puertovallartatours.com

We went on a private panga boat with our group of 20 out snorkeling and to Yelapa. We had a great time!

Mazatlan

It is so easy to get off the boat, walk through the cruise terminal, and follow the blue line straight into the old historical part of town. Better yet, there is a group of ex-pats living in Mazatlan who stand around the cruise terminal and at all important touristy areas in the city. They wear blue shirts and are known as Mazatlan Tourism Volunteer. They love the city and work as volunteers, helping you get around town, answer any questions, point you towards restaurants and sights. No need to book any walking tour of the city with this friendly crew! I loved Mazatlan so much. We visited the Mercado Centro, the Iglesia in town, and Playa Olas Altas. When I retire I want to move to Mazatlan and become a Tourism Volunteer!

Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is like Mexico meets Las Vegas. Not my cup of tea (I prefer a more authentic experience like Mazatlan), but it is good for people who like Mexico-lite. Everyone speaks great English and its geared towards tourists. We like to roam so we ended up just walking around. Cabo is a great place to see wildlife! While we were still docking I saw a sea turtle swimming around from the buffet windows! We also saw sea lions swimming around the marina.

Los Angeles

I have lived in the LA area for years. Is there something to see at the Port of LA in San Pedro? Why do I have to review this?
