Let me begin by saying we have been on over 25 cruises. We have cruised on Carnival (1x, never again), NCL (family cruises), RCC, Holland, Regents, Azamara, Celebrity, MSC (never again because of smokers) and American (don't think they exist anymore).

We chose this cruise for a few reasons:

1. We were on the Ryndam last year and my husband, along with 75% of the people on the ship, got norovirus which caused us to miss out on a lot. 2. Holland ended that cruise a day early and offered us large incentives to cruise again with Holland. 3. We picked the Koningsdam because it was a new ship and it was going to Iceland. We were told the pre hotel would let us check in early – they did at an additional charge of 50 euros. This was probably our last Holland cruise. The menus were so unappetizing to us that, for the first time ever we ate in the Lido (buffet) every night so we could pick and choose from all that was available. We did enjoy breakfast in the dining room most days. Room service was a big disappointment on the few mornings we had early tours. Tours that we got to go on were pretty good - except one where the tour guide read from a script. We missed several tours because I was served (and ate) fried chicken was undercooked (bloody) so I waited the 12-72 hrs, worrying that I would get salmonella infection. That really ruined the next few days. The ship's staff refused to provide me documentation in case I have problems in the future (Salmonella can be present without symptoms). The showroom entertainment was good but other entertainment around the ship was mediocre. We really missed having enrichment talks like we get on other cruise lines.

Cabin Review

Verandah Stateroom

Cabin VA

The veranda cabin was a "guaranteed upgrade" to a VA cabin. This is one of the cabins that has lifeboats below so the view down to the water was obstructed. The view straight out was fine. There was plenty of storage in the cabin and our attendant quickly provided extra hangers when requested. There was a small table on the veranda that was missing balancing screws so we turned it upside down - it was still in the same position two weeks later. The rugs could have been vacuumed better.

Bathroom: The shower was really nice. The toilet was in a really weird position - knees were in the shower door if sitting straight on it.

Port Reviews

Akureyri

We had to cancel our tour and didn't leave the ship because I consumed uncooked chicken and was waiting to see if salmonella infection symptoms would start.

Alesund

Had to stay on board again because the 72 hour incubation period wasn't finished.

Bergen

We have been to Bergen several times in the past so we did not venture out in the pouring rain.
