Apologize for the lengthy review but the Vista is the most amazing ship I've sailed on.

Arrived in Barcelona 2 nights before sailing. Stayed at a hotel close to Las Ramblas and walked from Port Vell to Placa de Catalunya. Lots of tourists, especially around the Mercado area. My friend and I also meandered through the Gothic Quarter and found a small café with very inexpensive food and great service.

Embarkation: With the onset of my Vista cruise, I was supposed to make platinum. However, until I boarded the ship, I was still gold. Arrived at the port around 12:30 PM; there was a huge line waiting to enter the facility. My friend and I opted to wait at a small café not far from the long line rather than stand under the hot sun. By 1:45 PM the line had shrunk so we joined the queue. Within 15 minutes we were at check in. I was still listed as being gold and was told to go to Guest Services on the ship to be upgraded.

Cabin: I received an upgrade/upsell call a few weeks before the cruise to move from an inside cabin on the Riviera deck (deck 1) to a balcony cabin on deck 6, mid-ship. So for a couple of hundred more, I grabbed it. The cabin was roomy and it was great to go out on the balcony with my coffee in the morning. The cabin steward was in the hallway and he quickly came over to introduce himself. Randy was from Nicaragua and was just the most attentive cabin steward. While my friend was speaking to him, I looked under the bed to see if my body bag suitcase would fit. There were 2 huge comforters taking up the space and he promptly removed them. He said it made no sense to store them there because the passengers needed a place to stow the luggage but he had to follow directives. I don’t know where he took them to but they were gone from the cabin. There was only one closet to hang dresses from but my friend and I were able to use just the one because I removed the robes and stored them in one of the drawers under the couch. I used the other drawer for my stuff and my friend used the drawers in the second closet area. The third closet space we both used to hang tops and capris. Storage was not a problem. We also relocated the phone to the first shelf in the vanity area so the ice bucket tray was under the phone. In other words, my friend and I rearranged a few things to suit us. We were both pleased that there were 2 USB ports to recharge the cameras, etc.

Port Reviews

Barcelona

Been to Barcelona before. Stayed 2 nights pre-cruise then 2 nights post-cruise. Walked Las Ramblas, visited the Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, etc. Metro easy to navigate.

Palermo (Sicily)

Went on a tram that took you around a bit of Palermo for 10 Euros. Midway was a stop where there was a beautiful church. My friend and I walked in and Mass was just starting. We are not Catholic but we figured it was Sunday so we stayed. The priest was a very dynamic speaker; however, neither of us spoke Italian so it went right over our heads. We then walked around a bit where I had a very good gelato then we headed back to the ship around 2 PM.

Marseille

Would rather skip this port.

Palma de Mallorca (Majorca)

Would like to return for a longer visit.
