My wife wanted to treat her mother to a special 70th birthday vacation, and my mother-in-law thought Alaska would be fantastic. And indeed it was.

I had never done Alaska before but just thought it was absolutely stunningly gorgeous, through Ketchikan to Juneau, to especially Skagway and the White Pass and Yukon Railroad.

Prior to this, we'd sailed Infinity and Reflection, for 14 and 16 night cruises respectively. Solstice represented a bit of a step down in a few ways for me from Reflection. Reflection's slight extra size was really noticeable: the alcoves, giant adirondacks, and Lawn Club Grill made the lawn less of a novelty and more of a feature on Reflection. On Solstice, Alaska-cold-notwithstanding, it didn't feel like much.

Cabin Review

AquaClass 1

Cabin A1

The fact that this cabin is listed and sold as an A1 is a sham and a complete mistake.

YOU WILL HAVE VERY OBSTRUCTED VIEWS. AVOID 1551 IF YOU CAN. In addition to the intense overhang, 1551 has the window washing gantry system stowed outside of it, along with an access ladder. This is extremely frustrating and ruins a large portion of your view outside.

Other than that, the cabin was clean, and relatively quiet (though you could hear a crew door/pool access room outside if you listened at certain times.)

Couch is hard and relatively uncomfortable as always, but the bed was pretty decent and the bathroom totally fine.

Again, A1 isn't the problem, THIS A1 is. Stay far away and if you find yourself assigned it, change. Trust me.
