We have just returned from another cruise on Magellan, and as usual I would describe the cruise as adequate. We sailed from Newcastle picking up passengers from Dundee on day 2.
In Torshaven it was cold and started to snow while we were there, not much to see in this tiny capital of the Faroes,so we were glad it was a short visit. On to Iceland and Seydisfjordur where all the excursions had been cancelled because the mountain roads were dangerous because of heavy snowfall. Not much to see here either, and the weather worsened with horizontal snow and bitter winds,so it was a short visit and back to the ship. Our next port of call was much better,a pretty, clean town Akureyri with much better weather. We next called at Isafjordur,a very bleak depressing town with lots of houses built from rusty corrugated iron,so it was a quick visit and offl to the ship to warm up. On to Reykjavik for an overnight stay in the capital. We got the Hop on Hop off bus that took us around the city in an hour. Back to the ship for lunch then back on the bus so we could visit a couple of places we had seen. The following morning we walked into the city taking about 40 minutes,we returned on the shuttle bus and sailed after lunch.
The next day was at sea and then we arrived in Lerwick where we spent the day.Next it was on to Kirkwall where we had booked an excursion to Scapa Flow and the Scapa Distillery. It was a great choice and we had a lovely day.
Small,basic cabin,no seating area,comfortable twin beds.
