Azamara Journey Cruise Review by sunshine 16

- Destination: Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Club Deluxe Veranda Stateroom
V1Club Veranda Stateroom on deck 8
This was our 5th Azamara cruise. First was Jan 11 Baja from SanDiego.
Overall impression was something was lacking - service was hit or miss - staff seemed cordial but not friendly and always hurried. Think they are understaffed.
Had 2 outstanding crew - Jason is Aqualina and then in Mosaic cafe and Michael at the
sunset bar. I gave Michael the receipe for a favorite mixed drink - lemon drop - he said
he called it a citrus martini and made it for me about 4 times.
Cabin was fine, yes bathroom is small. We did in room dining more then usual. Even did
one dinner, did not want to deal with Buffet before Amazing Evening and it was fun. Food
very nice. Good room service, did out ordering by phone not TV. A white table cloth was put on the veranda each time.
We had good experiences in Aqualina and Prime C. My husband's dover sole was one of the best he had experienced. Chef's French table was good - wine steward gave TMI.
Service in Discoveries restaurant was extremely slow. I am a very slow eater, however, 2 1/2 hour is a bit long. The noise level is unacceptable. Was told more tables
were added to Discoveries in the refit - that may be the problem. No meal was memorable. Patio Grill in evening a nice addition. We are not buffet people so
avoid Windows Cafe. However, it was not crowded or pushy (as in other ships)
when we did have bkfst or lunch. We asked for sharing table for breakfast in
Discoveries, we were not once accommodated.
The small ship experience in smaller ports is great. Seldom on any of or 5 cruises
were there more then 2 ships in port. This itinerary had 4 in which we were tendered.
Only waited at one port, Virgin Gorda, for the tender. Did 2 shore excursions, no
One really big mistake in the refit -the smoking area on Deck 9 is adjacent to the Spa!
Smell the smoke as you enter for a treatment.
Main show are as good as they can get on the small stage. Was told there are 2 less dancers on this cruise. Other nights were ok. Always got a seat at 930 PM show, even though just on time because of slow service in Discoveries (usually dine around 7PM).
The geologic, Caribbean culture lecturer was great. We are bridge players and REALLY appreciated the bridge lessons and play in the afternoons at sea. White Nights
was fun - always are. Amazing Evening well organized but entertainment not too great.
Most fun was watching the children who played steel drums watching the fireworks.
Overall, price has certainly has increased, something is lacking. Not in big hurry to book again.
PS This was our 47th cruise. Began cruising in the late 70's . Have booked a Danube
river cruise for this July.
