We had a great time on this transatlantic crossing. IMO Azamara (AZ) does a fine job delivering to a special niche market that is neither mass-market nor luxury. As a result, most aspects of the crossing were very good, with a few things exceptional and a few areas that need work.
One exceptional area is the fact that the Captain, Cruise Director, Hotel Manager, and entertainment staff are out and about, greeting the passengers and responding to their concerns. If this is important to you, you will be pleased with AZ.
Another outstanding aspect is the friendly attitude of the passengers. Passengers are very outgoing and open to conversations. Passengers seemed happy and enjoying themselves. There was little of the picky complaining that one sometimes finds on other lines. If you like meeting folks and get your energy from other people, then AZ is for you. But if you want to be alone and are looking for a private or secluded getaway, you will have a problem finding it on this somewhat crowded busy ship.
We paid for an upgrade and were happy we did as it was our refuge from the hubbub on board. We think the suite has been updated, all furniture and decorations were new and spiffy. Lots and lots of space and comfortable furniture. Butler service was good and helpful in getting our continental breakfast late mornings. Huge deck with lots of sun and shade, very comfy deck furniture. Only issue was the position of the suite on the far back of the ship where there is more motion and quite a bit of vibration, especially when all the propellers are going. We have booked an Owner's Suite for another crossing.
We were in Barcelona for 6 weeks prior to embarkation. It's an incredible city full of art, special architecture, museums and vibrant city life.
Find a pub for a beer and lunch. Otherwise not much there.
We took a taxi to Marigot and had a terrific French lunch. Pretty island.
Stay on the ship unless you to the rock formations called "The Baths."
