We have taken a number of Viking River cruises in Europe and China, but this was, obviously, our first ocean cruise with Viking. We had followed some of the initial reviews that caused us some level of concern, having done two Oceania cruises that we really enjoyed.

So, bearing a bit of trepidation, we left Dallas for Bergen (via Newark & Oslo). Things worked well for us; we met fellow cruisers in Newark who were a joy to be with; they had a different routing, so we did not see them again until we got to the ship. Then in Oslo, we met yet another outstanding couple who were also boarding the Star. I really feel that winsome passengers can make or break the trip and we truly enjoyed the folks we encountered.

We were impressed with the efficiency of the boarding process; we were on deck 4, but there was not a delay in getting to our cabin. Our steward was outstanding; we needed some extra coat hangers which were quickly provided, and when the additional supply was inadequate, we asked for yet another set; this solved that issue. I have never been on Viking when I didn’t need additional hangers, and they have always been provided.
