My mother and I just completed a transatlantic crossing on Queen Mary 2. It was indeed the best of times and the worst of times. One of the crew members was lost at sea during the Eastbound crossing. We went back to look for him but to no avail. I would like to commend Captain Kevin Oprey for the outstanding way he handled this difficult situation. The captain even asked the passengers to help keep a look-out. That gave us a way to feel helpful, Everyone was very sad.
We stayed in a wheelchair accessible cabin in Queens Grill. Our butlers Nor and Jose and assistant butler Sherwin did a fine job. The food in the Grills dining room was better than ever. The staff were extraordinary in the care they took with making our voyage a wonderful experience--from Maitre d' Patu to head waiters Krishna, Ralph, and Jacek to waiters Christina, Lenard, and Christel and wine steward Pablo--all were stars. The Concierge staff was helpful as was the World Club staff. The Purser's Desk staff remains a weak link in an otherwise shining chain. The Queen Mary 2 is a 5 star hotel floating in the ocean. It is a splendid way to travel.
Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. People were very kind and helped Mom with her wheelchair.
This is a wheelchair accessible cabin. It is very well set up for someone in a wheelchair to use, although the toilet is very low. It is close to the elevator and is very convenient.
