Embarkation in Rome (Civitavecchia)
Celebrity's port agent performed very badly. Rain in the Rome area the previous night caused the electricity supply to fail. Given the importance of checking in several thousand people at the pier in a window of only several hours, you would think that they would have a suitable generator back-up. Sadly not the case, and we were among many hundreds of people made to wait for several hours in the baking sun 95f/35c either in a Celebrity transfer bus with ineffective air conditioning, in a stuffy blacked-out 'tent', or in a line outside the 'tent' in the sun and without shade. Incredibly, instead of apologizing for the situation, Celebrity's response was "Well, it rained you know!" Message to Celebrity: yes, it can rain heavily in summer but you need to ensure your port agents have sufficient back-up to ensure your customers experience minimal disruption.
