At the outset of this review I will note that this was our 28th cruise and we do not limit our selves to any one line. It is the destination and/or activity we cruise for, in this case taking out two grand daughters to ride on the WHITE PASS & YUKON RAILROAD and the glaciers. Both of those goals were met and outstanding.
It had been at least 10 years since we had cruised with RCI and we had had wonderful experiences so after reading the reviews we booked Jewel. Boarding was fine and when we got to our room [ #8064 ] we found the room to be adequate but very tired. In the bath room we found our towels etc. to be thread bare and frayed. There was no shampoo, just soap. In the room we were never provided ice or a pitcher for water. There was no longer chocolates at bed time. Our cabin steward was very nice but on some days it was around noon before the room was made up. When I asked about all this I was told it was due to cost cutting.
The service in the main dinning room was great at dinner and very poor at lunch and breakfast. Very poor quality food, hot food came to the table cold, meat was tough, and selection uninspired. Our dinning staff were running to keep up with the 4 tables they were assigned. Also the mints were gone from the podium as we left.
We took a taxi into town [$12 for 4 people] and spent time in the museum which was very interesting.
