Norwegian Jewel Review

Loved Alaska; cruise filled with lots of highs and a few lows.

Just returned from Alaska on the Norwegian Jewell. Ship was great, clean, safe and enjoyable. Have never seen as many ships officers out and about on other cruise lines. Always available to answer questions. Ports were beautiful. The Sawyer Glacier was amazing. We were a bit concerned about freestyle dining as it was a new concept to us. No reason to be concerned. It was fabulous.

We had a few hiccups, mostly pre and post cruise. We booked the Crown Plaza in Seattle, through the cruise line. Also requested my husband have wheelchair assistance at the port. When we arrived at the Crown, we were forced to exit the shuttle into traffic. Then, to get into the hotel we had to go down a hill and around a corner or shlep luggage down a flight of stairs. Not handicap friendly at all. This was also the case, on Saturday to go to the ship. Wheelchair help at port was excellent. In Victoria, BC we were told a wheel chair would take my husband from the theater to the bus for our excursion. No one came. He had to walk. No handicap seating on bus. Sat in last row, Husband didn't get off at either of the 2 stops. I advise anyone with a mobility issue to NOT take the city tour, post cruise in Seattle. Again, we were the last on the bus because we needed the chair. I had to put the luggage on the bus, myself. Bus driver didn't offer to help. Again, last ones on, back to the bus. Again, not handicap friendly. Along walk up a hil and around the Space Needle to get into building and then a walk all the way around again. If when asked, the driver had told us there was an easier way, my husband would have enjoyed the tour. Instead he was in such pain he was unable to get off at Pikes Market. During the hour on the bus, the driver never spoke to him. Finally when we got to airport, driver tore one piece of luggage grabbing it from the side no the handles. Then he told us that if we needed a cart or a chair we needed to call the airline. It was not his job! Ruined our entire vacation with his arrogance.
