Just finished a cruise on the Norwegian Jewel. I was very disappointed in some of the changes that have taken place on since I last cruised with NCL (5 years ago on the Pearl).

My family and I took the Jewel on an Alaska cruise from Seattle on May 23. The embarkation in Seattle (pier 66) is awful, to small of an area for so many people to try to embark at almost the same time, took us well over two hours to get onto the ship. The embarkation out of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale is so much easier. But this is the not were my complaint comes starts, and first of all I must praise the service by all members on the ship as there actions and jobs were wonderful. My true complaint comes from the nickel and dime routine that the cruise industry is heading toward. It felt as if NCL has taken a page from the airline industry, where you pay and large sum to get on the ship and than pay for everything on the ship (room service). It just felt that NCL has cheapened their brand and taking with it some of the special feeling that came with cruising at one time.

Cabin Review

Family Balcony

Cabin B2

Cabin was excellent for a family of two adults and two young children, would not have been great if our children were teenagers.

Port Reviews

Seattle

Only experienced Seattle at Embarkation (pier 66), which was terrible. The area is way to small for so many people. Would recommend being there just before opening or waiting until the end.

Ketchikan

Ketchikan was beautiful. Just walked around Creek Street and enjoyed the scenery. Would recommend chilling out and watching the birds and people. Cruise ship is just a hop skip from the old town.

Juneau

Juneau is a beautiful town if the sun is out. I would suggest the Alaska Brewing company brewery. Its quit a ways from where the ships dock but well worth a cab ride of a excursion to it.
