We just returned from a fabulous journey aboard the Adventure of the Seas to the Southern Caribbean ports of Aruba, Curacao, St. Martin, and St. Thomas. We traveled Sep. 16-23, 2007, and the weather was perfect! We began our trip with a stay at the San Juan Intercontinental Resort and Casino. The hotel was booked through RCCL and although it was expensive, ($280/night double occupancy) it was very classy. We spent Sunday morning enjoying a delicious buffet breakfast, and then we lounged by the gorgeous pool, complete with rock waterfalls and a pool bar. Finally we noticed that over the boardwalk was the beautiful beach and sea! We then waited from 12:45 PM to 3 PM in the hotel lobby waiting for a pre-arranged RCCL transfer to the pier. This was the only bad part of the trip--waiting to be picked up for the cruise. We arrived at the pier at 3 PM. The lines were extremely long and we were skeptical, but nevertheless we were in our cabin by 4PM. We settled in and ordered our first drink of the day at the Gravity Sports Bar before taking our first tour of the ship. We fell in love with the giant vessel, being most impressed by the pool, spa, and ice-rink. By the time the early dinner rolled around, we were famished! We enjoyed a great meal with spectacular service by our waiter Sanjay and his assistant waiter Dick. They were both flawlessly polite and attentive. That night we enjoyed many drinks, a great comedy show, and some dancing at Jesters. We also gambled a little and my husband won about $100 in the slots. What a great night! :) On Monday, we were slow to recover from the previous night's drinking. My husband laid by the pool and I spent some quality time at the spa getting a great swedish massage by Juvi. Then we enjoyed afternoon ice-cream cones! On Tuesday we were in Aruba. We did the ATV tour, which I will remember as one of the funnest days of my life! We drove all over the island and got to see the beach, the national park, etc. I felt sorry for all the tourists trapped in jeeps, busses, or walking tours. This is a tour I highly recommend! On Wednesday we were in Curacao. We went kayaking and snorkeling. It was a nice tour and fun to be on a kayak on the rough waters of Storm's Pass. Snorkeling was only okay, but I think the site was not ideal. Thursday was at sea again. We love being at sea. It's nice and restful, but there are plenty of activities too. We ice-skated and I had a wonderful facial in the spa. That evening, I had a make-over by Danica in the cosmetics shop. She did a great job. I felt like a real princess for the captain's formal and the midnight buffet. On Friday we were in St. Martin. It was our favorite island. We spent time on both the Dutch and French side. We went on the Rhino Rider tour which was a blast. We also snorkeled which was great. The shopping was fantastic. We hope to return to this island for a long stay. On Saturday in St. Thomas, my husband did snuba and loved it, but I chose to shop. I found the shopping to be pretty much the same in all the islands. I didn't really find the bargains that I thought I would, though I did buy some fun replica handbags. Saturday night we had our final great dinner, tipped our waiters and stateroom attendants, packed our bags, and enjoyed one last night on the ship. It was a long vacation, but we loved it and highly recommend RCCL. It was top-notch service and very memorable! Our cruise director, Pierce Ivan was really entertaining. We saw most of the shows, but we enjoyed the comedy of Rodney the most. We also liked the show Fountains, which you just have to witness for yourself. It was very, very interesting! The ice-skating show is not to be missed. The food in the Windjammer was excellent, and we ate lunch there every day. Be careful not to get too full though, you want to save room for dinner! We met lots of great staff, with our favorite being "Minni" in the sports bar. She was very friendly. We laughed, danced, and ate alot, and we truly enjoyed the beautiful and romantic sailing. My husband bought me a beautiful caribbean topaz set with diamonds aboard the ship, and it is a beautiful memento of an amazing trip. Although we are happy to be home to our daughters, we loved our voyage aboard the Adventure, and we highly recommend this vacation.
