  3. Carnival Ecstasy
The ECSTASY might be older and a smaller Fantasy class ship however, We were very pleased with our experience aboard her this past week. We were originally booked in an Ocean View room on deck 7 and were thrilled when a Carnival associate called us a week prior to our departure and offered us an excellent upgrade rate for a Grand Suite on deck 6. We had already purchased the FTTF (Faster to the Fun) excursion and knowing that having been upgraded to a suite automatically got us priority boarding we decided to keep it for all the other priority benefits it provided, Embarkation at the port of Miami went very smooth. We arrived with four pieces of luggage to check and a single carry on. Checked pieces were given immediately to a porter. We filled out and attached our luggage tags prior to arriving at the terminal. Getting rid of our luggage was as easy as greeting a helpful porter. A tip and a genuine thank you and we were shown the way towards check in. Upon providing our boarding passes to the terminal entry staff we were directed to a room specifically for priority boarding. At the counter we were immediately greeted by a friendly staff member. Our Sail and Sign cards were provided within moments and we were invited to take a comfortable seat until boarding was announced. The general boarding area was fairly packed with fellow cruisers, many of whom had already been provided boarding zone numbers. We arrived at the port terminal approximately 11:15am. By 11:45 we were invited to board. Due to having FTTF we knew our stateroom would be immediately available to us so we headed there first to change and drop off our carry-on's. We were excited to get a first hand look at where we would be staying the next four nights and our Grand Suite proved to be beautiful and spacious. It was so nice in fact that I wonder if we'll ever book anything less for a future cruise? I won't spend time going over each and every daily event but will be provide the following comments based on our experiences aboard: Ships Staff and Crew: Every ECSTASY staff/crew member we encountered was friendly and helpful. Our Cabin Steward and his staff were always available and did a wonderful job making us feel comfortable. Our Windsong Dining room wait staff (late seating) was attentive, friendly and expedient. Great job Zeffry! A special mention to Winder our favorite Lido Deck drink server. We took advantage of the complimentary room service every morning. The Coffee was always an excellent dark roast and plenty hot. The danish and bagels were just enough to hold you over until breakfast. Food: What was available from the Lido Decks buffet and deli's was okay. We weren't expecting it to be "all that" but it was always good as a snack or a quick bite. Some items were better than others. There was always a good variety to choose from at the buffet. The pizza and deli sandwiches were good. Our Windsong dining room food was always good. I sampled a variety of dishes, some were more to my liking than others but that was the nice thing about the dining options, If you did not like something you could always ask for something else. The lobster we were served on elegant night was fantastic and everyone at our table requested 2nds. There is no "steakhouse" aboard ECSTASY however the menu did include some steakhouse selections and from what I did see of them they looked great and the portions justified the additional expense. These selections did take a bit longer to appear at the table but that was to be expected since you were ordering something special. Entertainment: Ourselves we chose to spend our evenings dancing in the Stripes nightclub so we did not see any of the shows ourselves however many of the acquaintances we made during our cruise had very good reviews. The Ship: Yes Ecstasy is old but considering her age and service she looks great. Carnival did a really great job on here recent upgrades and refurbishments. One of the 2 Atrium glass elevators was out of service but all the others functioned well. The ship was very clean and you could always spot a person here or there performing some kind of cleaning service. There were plenty of tables, chairs and loungers on all the open deck areas. All were in very good condition. The under 21 Serenity deck rule was always "politely" enforced as was the non smoking policy except in a very few designated smoking areas. Being a smaller fantasy class vessel ECSTASY was very easy to learn your way around on and even though she typically sails fully booked. She's plenty spacious and everyone we met was very friendly. Living Quarters: We usually book an Ocean view room and have found them to be more than adaquate for a 3-5 day cruise. The Grand Suite was an un-expected and much appreciated last minute upgrade offer from CCL. We couldn't turn it down. The Suite itself is on level 6 known as the Upper Deck. Having staterooms on the deck above and below the room was usually very quiet. Also being located amidships the ships motion was far less noticeable than it would be compared to extreme forward or Aft staterooms. The Grand Suite is spacious and well appointed with upgraded trim, decorations, draperies, closet and bathroom amenities. We enjoyed everything about the room itself with the exception that there is only (1) electrical receptacle? Just 1? Yes, So bring a multi-plug adapter or power strip (non surge protected) if you have multiple devices that need recharging. The bedding was very nice and the mattress was equally as comfortable. We slept very well each night. The provided towels and bathrobes were also very good quality and having a jacuzzi style tub (although small) was very nice. The bathroom itself for just the two of us was more than adequate and would have been just as suitable for 3 or 4. There was a nice comfortable couch that converted into a bed, Plenty of lighting options. Also a screen that could be used to create privacy between the bed and the convertible if desired. It's disappointing to read the negative reviews others have posted regarding Ecstasy. Maybe folks have just too high of an expectation and might be disappointed with anything less than the QE2? Our cruise experience (despite having not so good weather) was fantastic! We I highly recommend her and would have no hesitation to sail with her again.

Just fabulous!

Each provided plenty of hanging space, open cubbies and plenty of drawers. The Balcony:Folks there's nothing like having your own Balcony. Even if you don't get a Grand Suite having a room with a balcony is really nice. The only negative I could mention is really not Carnivals problem but has more to do with young ones taking a joyfull run down the long passageways. Kids will be kids and there's nothing wrong with that...
