We have cruised with Celebrity many times, always with good results and this was no different.
We chose to sail from San Juan PR because it starts and finishes in amongst the Islands without the days at sea from Miami, this means you get more island stops in a shorter cruise although you have to travel further by air.
The Summit is a good ship but of an older design and showing some age now, we have experienced the newer Solstice Class ships and the differences are notable, particularly in the Oceanview café where the flow of people traffic at breakfast is poor; we had a Veranda Room, the condition of the balcony was poor, the steel was rust stained and had been painted over multiple times with paint splashes all over the handrail wood and glass and onto the deck furniture also; this gave it a very shabby appearance. The bathroom in our cabin was in poor shape with poorly patched holes in the shower.
Our cabin was a concierge class and I'm not convinced of the value of that, the daily canapés were ok but lacked imagination, Celebrity used to provide fresh flowers in the concierge cabin's but that seems to have gone now.We had a Veranda Room, the condition of the balcony was poor, the steel was rust stained and had been painted over multiple times with paint splashes all over the handrail wood and glass and onto the deck furniture also; this gave it a very shabby appearance. The bathroom in our cabin was in poor shape with poorly patched holes in the shower. The location of the cabin midway between the midship and aft elevators on the starboard side of the 8th floor was great, with easy access to the café and the pool decks and not too much traffic passing by, the balcony was sheltered by the overhanging oceanview restaurant which gave some shade and protection from the rain also.Overall though the cabin was in reasonable condition, the above is a function of the age of the ship.
