Our Carnival Liberty cruise (May 11th - 18th, 2013)

Sail Date: May 2013
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami
This was our ninth cruise, and our fifth cruise on Carnival. We sailed on the Liberty last year and did the Western itinerary. We loved the Liberty so much (with the 2.0 upgrades) that we decided to return this year and go on the Eastern itinerary. Our ports of call were Half Moon Cay, St. Thomas, San Juan and Grand Turk. Great itinerary! We could easily repeat this itinerary without hesitation.

Our cruise director, Karl (with a "K"), his assistant Adam, and the rest of his staff did a great job of keeping everyone entertained on board.

We ate in the Steak House on the first night, and the food was excellent! I highly recommend it. Always in the past, we chose early seating for dinner. This time, we chose Anytime dining, and it worked out great for us. I don't think we'll ever go back to a set dining time. We opted not to take dress up clothes for the formal dining nights, and ate at the buffet on the two formal nights. Although the stage shows were pretty good, I More can't say they were exceptionally good.

Our cabin steward did a very good job of taking care of our cabin. We had a balcony cabin, and were very conscientious about not letting the balcony door slam shut. Unfortunately, there were several people that seemed to not be so concerned about it, as we constantly heard doors slamming shut.

Absolutely no complaints about the ship or the staff. Oh, one more thing. No matter how good you think your memory is, make a written list of things you want to take. We didn't this time, and forgot a couple of (minor) things. But it didn't spoil our vacation. Less

Cabin review: 8B7408 Balcony

Cabin #7408. Good location for easy access to the Lido deck, Aft pool area, and Victoria's lounge. There is a housekeeping storage room across from this cabin, so if you're a light sleeper and like to sleep in, the noise in the morning may be bothersome. Also, although it's conveniently located right around the corner from the Aft elevators and stairway, you will from time to time hear other passengers talking as they walk past in the hallway.

Port and Shore Excursions

This was our first visit to Grand Turk, but hopefully not our last. We, along with some other friends, rented golf carts and explored the island on our own. I was really fascinated with the little island. It is very "rustic", like the rural areas of West Virginia (only flat) in the Caribbean. The gift shops at the port are typical of what you would find at most ports (jewelry, clothing, duty free items such as alcohol and tobacco products, magnets, key chains, etc.).

Although renting a cabana seems to be very popular for many at Half Moon Cay, we opted not to. The beach is very nice, probably one of the nicest beaches we've ever been to. Don't do like I did and forget to put sunblock on your face. I got a mild sunburn on my forehead, and it was kind of pink for a couple of days.

This was our third visit to San Juan, one of our favorite ports. We opted to explore Old San Juan on our own, visiting several of the shops, and admiring the architecture of the old buildings. One short day in port just doesn't seem to be long enough.
