Grand Princess Cruise Review by aloha43
- Sail Date: March 2013
- Destination: Hawaii
Embarkation was miserable, as we stood in line from 11:00am to 6:00pm. My mom and uncle (83 yrs old) were with us in line. There was no offer of information, water, restrooms, etc. It was terrible.
Once we were aboard, we found out that the ship wouldn't be sailing until 10:00 pm. That completely ruined our chances for the sail away under the Golden Gate Bridge, which was a highlight of our trip. It was so late we slept through it.
The cruise itself:
Once we awoke sailing towards Hawaii, our attitudes changed and we realized it was time to let it go and have some fun!
She is an old ship, and in need of some TLC. The layout of the ship was very confusing at times, but after some exploring, we learned our way around.
We give AAA++++ rating to the staff aboard the Grand Princess. They were OUTSTANDING!! Everyone from Somyot...our stateroom attendant, to the servers in the Horizon Court to the dining room staff were wonderful.
We enjoyed the "Two Voices Duo" in the Wheelhouse Bar and Piazza, The Lady Hit Trio in the Piazza, Tetiana on the piano....they were all so talented.
My husband "Dan" competed in the Princess Pop Star competition and won the final round.....we are so proud! We celebrated our 25th Anniversary on board and Princess treated us to Happy Anniversary balloons and a sign on our door, the staff in the Crown Grill sang Happy Anniversary to us and gave us a wonderful cake for the occasion.
The ONLY complaint we had:
The location of our room was directly above the Vista Lounge. Let this be a warning to anyone who is sensitive to loud bass booming. The booming was so bad that headphones didn't do any good due to the horrible vibration. The floor, bed, TV, glasses, bathroom door vibrated. This was in no way every night, but when it did happen, it was absolutely miserable.
If we were the partying type that stayed out late every night, it wouldn't have mattered. But we are the quiet type that likes to spend quiet time together in our room and go to bed early. When we spoke to Customer Service, they said it happens and all we had to do was let them know and the bass would be turned down. After we said something, it seemed to get worse. A few nights we were forced to leave our room until it stopped.
Like I said above.... this was our ONLY complaint. I just wish Princess would put a warning on these rooms liken to an obstructed balcony, except for sound.
Anyway, this was a wonderful cruise and we would recommend it to anyone....we had so much fun and met so many people!
This is only a problem if you like to spend a lot of time in your room.
