Westerdam cruise 2-15-14 We booked this cruise as a get away from winter, relax and enjoy a warmer climate for a week trip. If you are familiar with C S Lewis’ Narnia series, we feel like this has been an endless winter in Pennsylvania – “Always winter and never Christmas.”
Pre-cruise:
All week we were nervous – would we make the ship or not? A major winter storm hit our area on Thursday the ...
We’re currently wrapping up our 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Westerdam, and we will never cruise aboard this or any other Holland America vessel again based upon our experience here.
It’s almost not worth mentioning the sum of little disappointments, like the filet burned beyond recognition to shoe leather for dinner at Pinnacle Grill, the surly service from bartenders and wait staff, or ...
I must totally agree with the previous writer's experiences on the Holland America Westerdam. We too sailed from Fort Lauderdale for what we were anticipating to be a restful, relaxing cruise vacation. Little did we know that it would be virtually a week without hot water in our stateroom, tiny, disappointing tiny portions of food in the main dining room, and most of the cruise experienced through ...
One of the good things about cruising is that to a large extent you can make a cruise whatever you want it to be. If you just want to get out to Sea & do nothing, you can do that. If you want to meet lots of people and participate in activities, you can do that. Or maybe you just want to eat & drink yourself silly – you can do that, too. So this Review should be prefaced by knowing what we wanted ...
This was my 3rd cruise with HAL and to me the 2 other ships had higher standards ( Ryndam & Zuiderdam) Although the service was excellent, it did not seem personal as if they didn't like their jobs. Except for housekeeping attendants ( Reindra & Wayan) They were always happy, joking around and fun. They worked their butts off too! Making sure everything was great for us. Their attitude earned them ...
We thought the ship food was very good, the staff was very friendly and we appreciate that they gave us a two category room upgrade. We loved the itinerary and had an especially good time at Half Moon Cay and Grand Turks. The cruise director and captain were very nice and the front desk people were very kind. The excursion Grand Turks for ultimate snorkeling was very nice. Embarkation and ...
i agree with globetrotter. we both started getting a respitory illness while on board. i honestly thought is was asthma but after we got home it made it self known. I came home with a rash all over my back, on my arms and neck, i was exteeemly dizzy, and upper respirtory illness.
the main way that Noro starts because someone doesn’t wash their hands well and contaminates the food with feces ...
Also sailed on the Westerdam on Jan. 4. There was a stomach virus outbreak but I think some of the reviewers responses are a bit over the top. We had a great cruise, and, importantly, DID NOT get sick. HAL took aggressive measures to halt the spread of the virus, and, now reading about outbreaks on Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Princess, maybe they knew what they were doing. (Although in some ...
My wife and I had been on one other cruse before last year which was amazing, great food, excellent shows, nice atmostphere. We were dissapointed with this cruse for a number of reasons.
=== Food ===
By looking at other reviews here we saw that there had been an illness outbreak a week or two ealier, and it showed. For the first 2 days there was no self service food in Lido restaurant. We were ...
I sailed with my sister, on what we anticipated to be a great Carribean cruise. My sister is a seasoned Mariner and she selected Holland America Line due to it's previous reputation. We boarded the ship and our stateroom was ready early. Given the two separate beds and no curtains to close between the beds, I slept on the pull out couch. I felt the metal bar against my back all week. When I asked ...
