Chose Viking based on friend’s recommendation. Not disappointed at all. I’m guessing they’re expensive compared to other river cruise lines, but if there is any way you can afford it, spend the extra money.
One thing about river cruises we didn’t realize were the several possible disruptions due to weather, river depths and lock delays (you go through 50 some locks). None of which are Viking’s ...
This was a dream come true for us. We put off choosing a date, place and length until last minute and ended up with limited availability. We ended up picking this and we can’t wait to go again! The ship was fantastic! The staff were amazingly attentive. The food was better than anything I have had in a land based restaurant. The tours and excursions were beautiful. Tour guides were not only ...
March 31, 2019 on Viking Magni River Cruise Budapest to Passau. First suggestion, do your homework. We booked a French “Balcony” (sliding door) on 3rd Fl. Very small. Just enough room for a double bed. No chairs so reading or TV is lying on bed. Small bathroom. Very efficient but claustrophobic.
Room has fridge but only useful for bringing in shore beverages or food. Hint. Don’t ...
We chose the cruise for the same reasons as Judhess. Because of the low water, our trip was a big disappointment. After the first night spent on the Viking Idun in Budapest, we made our first transition to another Viking Ship (this time the Magni). And, still, after a few days we made a change to another ship and then the last night to a hotel in Amsterdam.
We spent many hours being ...
Thank you, winma, for taking the time to share your recent Viking experience with the cruising community. We recognize that you are one of the many affected by the itinerary changes...
Always wanted to do a river cruise in Europe and this one provided the most highlights and included shore excursions. Going that far, we wanted to spend more time so we chose a 2 week cruise. The reason for the poor review is the way Viking handled the low water situation. We had inquired about this problem before we left for our cruise and was told that there was no issue. They lied! We heard ...
Thank you, judhess, for taking the time to share your recent Viking experience with the cruising community. Although it is with delight that we learn you found the dining and shore excursion...
We wanted a long cruise where we could truly relax. The 15 day cruise was really great. We celebrated our 40th anniversary on board. We had beautiful weather and the shore excursions were very enjoyable. Our dining experience was very nice. We were well taken care of. The stop in Nuremberg was very moving.
The guides were very knowledgeable and accommodating. Our director Marie was lots of ...
Beware the excellent marketing pitch given by Viking Cruise line. To see their commercials you imagine days of luxurious vistas and exclusive sightseeing. What we got on our 14-day cruise on the Danube and Rhine were hotels, ship changes and a dozen bus rides. When we were on board, we were often tied to boats three abreast or moored in industrial shipyards. The view from our patio was the ...
Service on Magni was very good. Had to switch ships halfway due to water levvels. Staff not nearly as attentive or nice. Third day they were still asking us what our cabin number was when we ordered a drink. On Magni, they knew day one.
Food was ok, not a big selection.Got very tired of busing everywhere, especially last day. Spent 8 hours on a bus. I paid for a river cruise! Saw some ...
This was our first time cruising with Viking. It exceeded all expectations. The crew was phenomenal attention to detail is amazing we couldn’t of picked a better vacation. Two months after this cruise we booked another Viking cruise. The excursions offered are widely diverse. They give details of what will be done whether easy moderate or extreme hiking based on your day and how you feel it made ...
Recommended by travel agent. The ship allowed an obviously sick man to board and infect numerous passengers and the crew. He should because of that person, I was infected with the flu and missed 80% of the cruise and tours, being confined to may stateroom because of illness caused by the sick individual. It was very unfair. One of the tours had to be cancelled because of a river closure. ...
