POOR VIKING RIVER CRUISE

Review for Viking Idun to Europe - River Cruise

We would not recommend Viking river cruise. Dealing with Viking Air was cumbersome and time consuming. Nickel and dime air charges: $100.x2, $166.50x2, $24x2, $50x2, $20.x2. And no refund on any, some being Viking mistakes, some just illogical rules. Food was poor, most guests we ate with agreed. Customer blogs before this cruise commented on poor food and Viking chose not to fix this ...

We chose Viking because of their reputation. Our experience with the service, food, & excursions exceeded our expectations. The cruise director, Marie, kept everything organized for the excursions and made the onboard evening activities fun. We were briefed each evening on the next day's agenda so there were no surprises. The food prepared by Chef Max was delicious and the ability to mix and ...

It was chosen on the recommendation of a friend and also our travel agent. We learned a great deal of European history, the devastation caused by World War II, and the resiliency of the European people. We were amazed by all we saw and the amount of territory we traveled. We also enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and sharing the experiences with them. The excursions were very ...

Not enough time in ports, too little control over your day

We chose this cruise because we had never tried a river cruise before and Viking seemed to be a popular option. They provided an included excursion at each city they stopped in, and we felt it was nice not to pay for every excursion. Finding the Cruise - Call for Better Pricing Our experience when we got to Amsterdam was really mixed. We were not provided with the exact location of the boat, ...

Not So Grand European

We wanted to experience the view from all 3 rivers, however Viking closed the upper deck for 6 days. I understand why but we would have selected another itinerary had we known this. My biggest dissatisfaction was the fact that the reason we take Viking is for their Enrichment and Shore Lectures. None of this existed on the River. The Aquavit Terrace that is advertised as another restaurant ...

A number of our friends have used Viking in the past and recommended it. We signed up by our selves not knowing anyone but soon became friends with a number of people. We actually have gotten together with 3 of the couple again this past summer at our home in Minnesota. One couple from MN, one from GA and one from WI. Another couple we remain in phone and x-mas card contact is from AZ. We ...

Great cruise despite (and because of) an accident

My sister selected this 10-day river cruise for us because of the size of the ship (about 170 passengers) and the destinations and excursions (Amsterdam, Hoorn, Arnhem, Kinderdijk, Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Brussels, Keukenhof, Haarlem, and back to Amsterdam). We have family connections to the Netherlands and were very excited to see so many cities and enjoy so many activities (biking, walking, ...

It was all wonderful. The highlight of excursions was the tour of Strasbourg.

We wanted to see Paris, Amsterdam, Strasbourg, Heidelberg and cruise down the Rhine. It was a perfect choice for us. We have take many ocean cruises but this was our 1st River Cruise. There were quite a few people on our river cruise who were also experience ocean cruisers on their 1st river cruise. We all felt the same: That this was a better experience because the service was outstanding ...

Idun--not without its issues--food and service below par

Viking Idun Amsterdam to Budapest--July/Aug 2012 My wife and I are somewhat regular cruisers on Regent, Seabourne, Seven Seas, Oceania, Princess and a few other lines, so we have some basis for comparison. Over 90% of our fellow cruisers were new to Viking, and most were from the US, Canada, and UK, a few people from Australia and New Zealand. Bottom line,we will not cruise with Viking again. ...
