(12:45 p.m. EST) -- Luxury expedition cruise company Ponant has partnered with sailing expert Olivier de Kersauson, naming him a Special Advisor on the design of its four new ships.
Ponant and de Kersauson have worked together before; de Kersauson sailed on several of the line's ships as a guest lecturer. In his new role, he will consult with Ponant on the design of its four new 184-passenger ships, the first of which launches 2018.
"A sailor of immense talent, Olivier de Kersauson, is a passionate and fascinating competitor. We are honoured to continue work with him, and to draw on his technical expertise and his expert eye in the production of our future ships," said Jean Emmanuel Sauvee, president and co-founder of Ponant.
De Kersauson sailed alongside famed yachtsman Eric Tabarly and has 45 years of professional sailing experience, including winning the Jules Verne Trophy twice. (The trophy is given for the fastest circumnavigation of the world by any type of yacht). Additionally, he holds several world records and has sailed round Cape Horn seven times.
