Port Canaveral Busiest Port?
Who knew? Despite the plethora of mega ships calling the Port of Miami home, Cape Canaveral actually wins the latest busiest-cruise-port-in-Florida contest. Port Canaveral, whose 45-minute distance from Orlando is a big plus not only for those wanting to combine a cruise with a visit to Disney or other area theme parks but also to northern vacationers for whom the commute is less onerous than southern Florida, pulled in 1.89 passengers between October 1, 1999 and September 30, 2000.

Miami was second, with 1.68 million.

The demise of Premier is not anticipated to impact Port Canaveral's growth in the coming year as Carnival has announced plans to base the 1,400-passenger Tropicale to Canaveral in February for short itineraries. Carnival's also homeporting  its new Carnival Pride on a year-round basis starting in January 2002
