| Cruise Ship Passenger Dies During Snorkel Excursion |
(11:20 a.m. EST) – A 68-year old Vision of the Seas passenger snorkeling off the coast of Roseau, Dominica died Wednesday, December 19, according to RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com, an unofficial Royal Caribbean International fan blog.
The man was on the "Champagne Snorkeling" ship-sponsored excursion, Cynthia Martinez, director of global corporate communications for Royal Caribbean Cruises Limited, told Cruise Critic, "when he began to experience breathing difficulties while snorkeling. He was transported to a local area hospital where sadly he passed away."
Police are investigating the cause of death.
Martinez said a member of the line's Care Team is providing support and assistance to the man's family. "Our thoughts are with his family and friends, and we will continue to do our very best to assist them."
Vision of the Seas was in the midst of a 10-night sailing at the time of the incident. The ship is scheduled to return to Port Everglades on December 24.
