Canyon Ranch, the ultra spa-as-health-resort -- which had tried, without success, to launch a spa-oriented cruise ship of its own, has agreed to operate the facilities on Cunard’s new Queen Mary 2. The 105,000-ton ship, due for launch in late 2003, will have a 20,000 square foot, two-deck spa -- with Canyon Ranch’s “usual” offerings of massages and therapeutic bodywork, mud, aromatherapy, ayuvedic and seaweed treatments, facials and masks, conditioning body scrubs and therapeutic body cocoons. Among its features include a co-ed Thermal Suite featuring an herbal sauna, Finnish sauna, reflexology basins and an aromatic steam room. There will be an exotic Rasul Ceremony, a Canyon Ranch SpaClub Signature treatment. This medicinal mud and steam treatment, which takes place in an ornately tiled steam chamber, is derived from an ancient cleansing ritual. The highlight, of course, is its 30 by 15 ft. co-ed thalassotherapy pool, complete with airbed recliner lounges, neck fountains, deluge waterfall, air tub, whirlpool and body massage jet benches. As well, the spa will include an extensive beauty salon, a juice bar and it will incorporate its healthy cuisine into onboard menus.
