Is Baltimore the next Miami? That mid-Atlantic port city’s getting a big boost as Celebrity announces it will offer a series of 10- and 11-day roundtrip Caribbean sailings on Galaxy. The cruises begin next spring (March 25 and beyond). The 11-day trips stop in ports such as Charleston, South Carolina, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, San Juan and the Bahamas. The 10-nighters hit Western Caribbean ports, including Key West, Cozumel, Belize City and the Bahamas.
In either case, plan for a couple of extra days at sea. Baltimore lies a fair distance north of the mouth of the notoriously navigationally-challenged Chesapeake Bay. Use of the port, according to Celebrity officials, is spurred by the cruise line’s effort to create more drive-to, rather than fly-to embarkation destinations.
