| AIDAbella Christened in Germany |
On April 23, international model Eva Padberg christened AIDAbella, the fifth ship in German line AIDA Cruises' fleet. The ceremony took place in Rostock-Warnemunde, Germany, with approximately 1,400 guests in attendance.
The ceremony's festivities included scenes from AIDA's new onboard musical "Avalon," performances by the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and a specially written christening song performed by Volkan Baydar, a member of the pop duo Orange Blue. Padberg wished the ship "six inches of water under the keel," and the champagne smash was successful.
AIDAbella then set off on a one-night Baltic cruise, accompanied by fireworks and music. The ship, a sister to AIDAdiva, will spend its maiden season summering in the Baltic and wintering in the Canary Islands.
AIDA is part of the Carnival Corp. family.
