Where in the world is Costa Mediterranea sailing next winter? We don't know ... and apparently neither does Costa.
In one of the odder press releases we've received here at Cruise Critic, Costa has announced that it will redeploy Costa Mediterranea -- not this year, but for the 2008/2009 season -- from the Caribbean. Okay, fair enough to make the announcement. What's weird is the fact that cruise line doesn't know yet where it will send the ship. Typically, cruise lines hold off on redeployment announcements until they know where the ship is going.
An official statement from the cruise line simply says, "The Costa Mediterranea will be redeployed to a different key core market, allowing Costa to reinforce its strategic global positions. Specific details will be forthcoming."
Beyond the curiosity, pulling a ship out of the Caribbean -- and again we emphasize that Costa Mediterranea will sail planned itineraries in that region this winter -- doesn't exhibit a whole lot of confidence in the popularity of sailings there.
In the meantime, where do you think Costa Mediterranea should go? Take our poll on the Costa forum, and be sure to post your opinions!
