| RCI Junior Officer Fired |
Royal Caribbean acted pretty swiftly in a recent case in which a junior officer aboard Enchantment of the Seas was accused of sexual assault. The 24-year old officer, arrested by the FBI last Sunday when the ship arrived in Florida, was blamed for sexual contact with two 14-old girls who were passengers on the ship. The officer has been fired and is sitting in a federal detention center in Miami.
The cruise line has issued a statement: “On April 1, Royal Caribbean International, in accordance with its zero-tolerance policy toward crime, reported an incident to the FBI and Norwegian Consulate (the flag state for the ship), involving inappropriate sexual conduct between a 24-year-old Second Officer and two minor females onboard Enchantment of the Seas. While we understand the activity was consensual, did not involve sexual intercourse, and included the misrepresentation of age, the company strictly prohibits fraternization with guests and has terminated the crewmember. We are cooperating fully with the FBI and the Norwegian Consulate and fully
support prosecution of this individual.”
